Consumer Law
NNJLS’ Consumer Law Unit helps people who have financial problems arising from transactions with unscrupulous creditors or lenders. Many of our clients are victims of consumer fraud or identity theft; others have problems with credit cards or other loans, repossessed automobiles, or unpaid medical bills. Often, these legal problems arise when an individual suffers the loss of income due to unemployment or disability.
People with legal problems in consumer matters have rights to fair process and these rights must be respected by creditors and debt collectors. Persons who receive government benefits, such as Social Security or Unemployment Assistance, have other protections against certain creditors.
NNJLS also offers legal clinics in Bergen, Hudson, and Passaic Counties which help individuals understand the bankruptcy process, and our attorneys can help qualified clients with the bankruptcy process in New Jersey.
