Domestic Violence
The Domestic Violence Representation Project at Northeast New Jersey Legal Services helps victims of domestic violence in Bergen, Hudson and Passaic Counties to obtain restraining orders and other forms of relief to keep themselves and their families safe and secure from the threat of future violence. If you are a victim of domestic abuse, call 911immediately! The police have a duty to enforce domestic violence laws and protect the victims. If you decided to file a complaint, you may be given a Temporary Restraining Order and instructions about how to get a permanent order. If you are financially eligible for our services, a NNJLS staff attorney with experience in domestic violence law will discuss your case with you and potentially represent you in court. We can also assist victims of domestic violence to obtain child and spousal support, possession of the residence and automobiles, and other forms of legal relief so that victims and their children can remain in their home and free from the threat of further violence.
Northeast New Jersey Legal Services complies with all applicable federal and state laws regarding non-discrimination as outlined in the New Jersey Department of Law and Public Safety’s Sub-recipient Civil Rights Compliance Training.
