Northeast New Jersey Legal Services Disaster Assistance

NNJLS provides legal assistance to members of the community who were
affected by Hurricane Sandy.  The goal of NNJLS's Disaster Assistance Project is to ensure that low-income residents of Bergen, Hudson and Passaic Counties who have suffered damage from the storm have a committed advocate to help them resolve their legal issues.

Disaster Legal Assistance

NNJLS provides disaster legal assistance in the following areas:

• Appealing claim denials from FEMA and private insurance carriers

• Evictions for non-payment of rent due to the storm

• Housing habitability issues arising from flooding, power outages, and other storm related damage

• Timely return of security deposits for clients who needed to relocate after the storm

• Problems with home repairs and contractors

• Representation at administrative agency hearings for denials of applications for emergency public benefits, such as food stamps, unemployment assistance and other public benefits
